Shannon Anderson grew up in Astoria, Oregon, which was made famous as the main setting for the movie The Goonies. Now, she lives in Portland, Oregon, where she uses her imagination to create exciting colored pencil drawings in her signature style. "You have to think what’s in your mind," she says, explaining how she goes about making a drawing. "Start with the inside, then do the outback later." Shannon's distinct and stylistic process of fishing for popular subject matter, rendering figures, and contextualizing them in space is a complicated and poetic push and pull of translation and improvisation. Some of her favorite TV and cinema references that appear in her drawings include: the British Royal Family, Swiss Family Robinson, and Crocodile Dundee. When she’s not making drawings, Shannon enjoys shopping. “I’m into jewelry and I’m into DVDs. And clothes. I’m also into posters,” she says.
