Salsgiver Bonanza Ranch

Harold Salsgiver has been busy staying creative at home, ever since Governor Kate Brown's "Stay Home Save Lives" order was announced to Oregonians. In early May, when he began collaborating remotely with PALS staff, Harold was completely out of blank cassette tapes. He had filled up his supply with voice recordings, cartoon character impersonations, and bootleg audio of his favorite country hits by Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Al Hirt and the Tijuana Brass.

An innovative participant in PALS' pilot program for virtual engagement, Harold has worked from home to finish glazing a series of ceramic creatures he created at PALS in February. He has also produced a new series of drawings and  become quite inventive with the record feature of virtual meeting software, creating original voice-overs to animate his ceramic sculptures.

Together with PALS staff, virtual reality innovators sharedspace.etc, local recording artist David Allred, and sound designer Ryan Gamblin. Harold has designed and built an interactive art exhibition showcasing his three primary art forms: audio recordings, ceramics, and drawing.

Salsgiver Bonanza Ranch is an interactive experience, both an art show and a computer game. You— the Park Ranger— have a picnic basket that needs to be filled with snacks provided by Harold's animated ceramic creatures. Once your basket is full, you must journey to the gold mine where the picnic is being held.
